This week began with Spain’s Navantia announced supplier engagement days in the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP) in Halifax, Ottawa and Vancouver.
Shortly after, Canada announced it cut the submarine buyer list to Germany and South Korea, including a Prime Ministerial visit to Germany’s TKMS Kiel Shipyard.
The visit also included a partnership on critical minerals and defence, driven by global trade shifts and NATO’s push for increased military spending. The Canada-Germany partnership also includes energy cooperation, with discussions on LNG and hydrogen to enhance transatlantic security. These actions reflect a strategic convergence of military and economic priorities, leveraging Canada’s vast mineral reserves to meet NATO goals and strengthen bilateral ties with Europe.

Canada reiterated its support to Ukraine on its 34th Independence Day anniversary, in a surprise visit by Prime Minster Carney, including in a $2B package and a raft of new aid programs.
