Between three oceans
Sweden plans a state visit to Canada. State visits strengthen international partnerships, move shared interests forward and support Canada’s larger diplomatic objectives. This comes on the heels of Sweden’s SAAB and Canada’s Bombardier working closely together.
The GICAT and French Embassy in Ottawa launched the Club Canada (no ties to the whisky - although they might need some to get through Canada’s procurement system).
Canada’s Norwegian Embassy co-hosted the half-day conference “Enhancing NATO Allied Interoperability in the Arctic”, together with the Canadian Global Affairs Institute, Embassy of Germany to Canada, Konrad-Audenauer-Stiftung Canada, TKMS & KONGSBERG.
Almaco group celebrated the opening of their office in Quebec City. The Finnish company is a key supplier to Davie’s Polar Max shipbuilding program. Chantier Davie celebrated the opening: Welcome to Quebec.
Finally, Readiness 2030 featured in Canadian Defence Review featuring the likes of Thales Canada, Calian and Bombardier Defence and their vision for defence business between Canada and Europe.
On the continent
Ontario conducts a trade mission in Germany, including a tour of TKMS by Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development.
Canada’s embassy in Germany will play host to a defence event. Canadian space companies get ready for Space Tech Expo Europe. The German’s also reportedly selected Ottawa’s Lockheed Martin Canada Combat Management System (CMS) and Vancouver’s OSI Maritime System Integrated Bridge Management System (IBMS), and will be included in TKMS’ offer to Canada’s Submarine program.
Canada’s Embassy in Portugal promoted the transatlantic partnership in the blue economy.
The High Commission of Canada to the UK co-hosted “Building the Quantum Economy: Opportunities with Canada” with Canada’s National Quantum Strategy Secretariat.
The Canada-France Chamber of Commerce is holding a defence and security focused event the week following Milipol.
The European Council and the European Parliament reached agreement on measures to incentivise defence related investments in the current EU budget - implementing the ReArm Europe plan, including associating Ukraine to the European Defence Fund. Here’s my take on this next step.

Undersea defence technology (UDT) takes place Apr 14-16 in London (United Kingdom).
Europe’s largest land domain conference, Eurosatory, is planned in Paris, 15-19 June.

The Canada EU Economic Chamber registration is closing for its annual event in Brussels taking place Nov 27.
